I am an advisor to a number of companies, and a recurring dynamic has caught my attention.
I am seeing senior leaders hoard information to protect their perceived importance.
- They exclude others from key meetings.
- No proper debriefs.
- No shared notes.
- Selective context.
What makes it worse?
Often, I find that these leaders do not carry the P&L. They are not responsible for churn. They are not losing sleep over runway or financial stability.
Yet they keep the people who are accountable for the company’s survival away from key customer stakeholders and critical information.
To me, that is not leadership. That is insecurity disguised as strategy.
If you need to withhold context to stay relevant, you are already irrelevant. Is that not true?
Have you come across such situations? I am curious to know how you have handled it.
